Almost 300 Applications Received in First Seven Days of .shop SUNRISE

Yesterday marked one week since the opening of Sunrise for .shop and we are very happy to report that the response has been overwhelming!

Among the first through the .shop door were major ecommerce platforms from some of the world’s largest ecommerce markets including China, the US, Europe and Japan. Offline retailers also recognized the marketing value of a .shop domain name as multi-national retail giants and globally recognized department stores were quick to secure their trademarks in the .shop namespace.

From high end luxury brands through to mass-market retailers, the highest demand to date for .shop names is clearly in the fashion industry, while beauty, electronics, home and interior are verticals in which the new domain is also drawing interest. Sports teams across Europe and the United States have also been snapping up their team names in .shop. Overall, participation has been broad with .shop applicants representing more than 20 countries. At GMO Registry, it is our aim to become the global home for all kinds of ecommerce and we are excited to see Sunrise participation from non-traditional ecommerce fields as well including banking, finance, and insurance.

The .shop Sunrise phase runs through to August 29, 2016. Priority access to .shop domain name registration will be available from September 1 – September 26, and General Availability opens September 26, at UTC 15:00.
